Porting your number into Chalkboard

If you’re using a different 2nd number that you’d like to transfer into Chalkboard - porting in your number is an option for you.

We support the porting of various number types, as listed below by country.

Once your number is ported in, the same pricing and regulatory requirements (including need to register some types of numbers) will apply. You can learn more about our number types here.

Porting in US numbers

If you're currently using a US local or landline with another provider, you can port this to Chalkboard.

To begin the porting process, the first thing you will need to do is contact your current service provider (or login to their portal) to get the information they have on file for you. Ideally, you should speak to someone in the porting department, as they'll be able to provide you with service information for the number.

In order to port your number, we'll need the following information of the authorised user or owner of the number (that's you!).

  • A Letter of Authorisation (LOA) signed by you.

    • Note that the information on your LOA must match the user's first and last name, and the service address provided by your current provider.

    • The service address is not the same as the billing address. Please ask your current provider for the service address specifically.

    • If you're porting a wireless number, your account number and porting PIN is required before we can process your port request.

  • A scanned (or electronic) copy of your most recent phone bill (within the last 30 days) that includes the account, name, and address information for the number you'd like to port in.

    • If you are porting a Google Voice number, please take a screenshot of the Google Voice settings page making sure the phone number and your email address appear in the screenshot.

    • If your provider does not provide you with a bill, please provide a receipt of phone number purchase and/or a screenshot of your account portal with the phone numbers included.

Porting takes an average of 2-4 weeks from the time your documents are received. We'll keep you informed of progress.

Porting in UK mobile numbers

For us to process your porting request with the provider you're porting away from, we need a 'PAC code' (your existing provider should be able to provide you with this).

There will be a period of downtime for the ported number up to 24 hours. If all of the information you’ve provided is complete and accurate and depending on the complexity of the port, the timeline is 5-7 business days. Confirming with your existing provider that you're porting your number away can help make the process go faster.
